Service centers in Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties are now issuing the updated ID card to people who renew or change their license in person, said Alexis Bakofsky, a spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Most people just need to renew their license as they normally would when it expires, and they will receive the updated card, Palm Beach County Tax Collector Anne Gannon said. The exception is for older licenses that dont have a gold star in the top right corner. That star signifies the license meets federal Real ID standards. Starting Oct. 1, 2020, travelers will need to present a Real-ID compliant card for domestic air travel. About 83 percent of Floridas drivers license and ID cards already meet those standards, according to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. The front of the card features a pastel-colored rendering of the state seal and a large orange FL in the background.
